| 2003-12-09/9:50 p.m. ”One discovers a friend by chance, and cannot but feel regret that 20 or 30 years of life may have been spent without the least knowledge of him.” ~Charles Dudey Warner Rachel issued to me a challenge, one that I chose not to take lightly, mostly because I don’t ever want to do my homework. I know I’m a terrible person, but I’m going to fail English anyway, so why not try to get something that may actually be good done? Rachel challenged me to find a quote that fit each of my friends. I’m only doing this with the friends from the Wood, mostly because I’m not sure if I know my friends from school enough to decide a quote for them yet. So here I go Rachel: “A woman known only through man is known wrong” and “Let her go, Watson. She’ll have none of us. She’s off to make her mark on the world, can’t you see? And God help any man who gets in her way!” She gets two because I can’t I have so many good Rachel quotes that it is hard to decide which ones are best. Therefore she gets those two, and what harm can it do if one of them is a Sherlock quote?? Lex: “Sometimes your joy is the source of your smile, but sometimes your smile can be the source of your joy.” Lex~ I know I’ve seen you smile when you haven’t been happy, but it seems like smiling helps you some. I think this describes you in so many ways, and your smile always brings me joy. Laura: “I never travel without my diary. One should always have something sensational to read in the train.” No one says it better than Oscar. Laura’s always got something so she can write everything down to remember every little detail. I think of Laura everytime I write this quote anywhere and I hope she thinks it’s adequate. Beth: “When you meet someone better than yourself, turn your thoughts to becoming his equal. When you meet someone not as good as yourself, look within and examine your own self.” I think the first part is most definitely Beth. And the second part is something that Beth would say, especially to me. I mean she’s totally awesome and I know that she’s always improving herself, but yet she’s so humble about everything. This is why when I see this quote I think of her. Seka: “Sorry, sorry. Just a simple janitor, not a Machiavellian prince plotting the downfall of you sheep.” Alright, if anyone objects to this being Seka then we may just have to come to blows. I totally think this is her… she’s that evil… Tim: “Life does not cease to be funny when people die any more than it ceases to be serious when people laugh.” Alright Tim was a hard one for me to figure out because I don’t know Tim that well. But I know that when I’m down Tim can help me get back to looking at things from a new perspective. Bindel: “Perhaps Margaret is right. Piracy is the only option.” Since Bindel always claims to be a pirate it seems to fit don’t you think? Plus it just makes it better that it’s from such a chick flick! I love it! Peter (before college): “Mark Darcy acts like he has a giant gherkin shoved up his backside.” Sorry Peter, it was just too perfect. I’m not quite sure what to do with you now that you’ve opened up and stuff in college; I’ll find you a new quote soon. Kenny: “It’s this brain of mine. It’s always making mistakes. It’s got a mind of its own.” Kenny this just sounds like it should be coming out of your mouth. Sometimes I just think that there is so much that you are pretending to know, and so much that you just don’t say. Bryan: “Life is far too important a thing to talk seriously about.” Bryan is like my conscious and my advisor. The reason I gave him this quote was because he’s able to joke about things (like Shawn teaching me the art of seduction) but is so completely there when you need him. He’s truly a remarkable kid, and I think that this just speaks to me as a Bryan because he has that Oscar Wilde care freeness that is always there. Maybe I’m totally off, and I’m not saying that Bryan’s not serious but he knows when it’s necessary and when he can be a goofball, and that’s why I love the kid. Shawn: “Nothing that is worth doing can be achieved in our lifetime, therefore we must be saved by hope. Nothing which is true or beautiful or good makes complete sense in any immediate context of history; therefore we must be saved by faith. Nothing we do, however virtuous, can be accomplished alone; therefore we must be saved by love.” Shawn-o has taught me so much about just being me and I guess this is why. She’s so strong in some places and it’s amazing to see her try her hardest even when things are really difficult. I really admire Shawn’s courage and her perseverance and I can see that in this quote. Katie K: “If at anytime you do not receive the smile you were expecting be generous and give that person a smile. Because nobody has as much necessity of a smile than the person that does not know how to smile at other.” Katie is another one who has just taught me an amazing amount about myself. She’s been an inspiration and I think that the Dali Lama would understand why it is that I gave her this quote. Her very nature is one that shines a smile on everyone she meets and I know many a time she’s improved my day just by smiling as we pass in the hall. Friends: “Friendship is the hardest thing in the world to explain. It’s not something you learn at school. But if you haven’t learned the meaning of friendship you really haven’t learned anything” ~Muhammed Ali I want you all to know that I feel truly blessed to have you in my life. There’s nothing that I could ask for this Christmas season then the chance to see you all happy and healthy. (Well there’s one thing, but that’s completely in God’s hands right now). I love you all so much and I can not wait to see you when you get back. Best of luck with finals and have a safe trip home. You all are so special that without you I would not be the person I am now.
